Obligation to Set Solar Panel Installation Targets

    The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has decided to require companies that use  a lot of fossil fuels, such as factories,  to set targets foe the introduction of solar panels starting next fiscal year. This move is aimed at expanding the use of renewable energy. 

    The target is about 12,000 businesses that use more than 1,500 kiloliters of crude oil per year. They are required to report annually to the government on the progress of their plans. By making it mandatory, the government hopes to support a plan to increase the share of renewable energy in total power generation from 40% to 50% by 2040, making it the largest source of power generation.

    Recently, global environmental issues have become more serious, and I thought that renewable energy would bring us one step closer to achieving a sustainable society. In addition, renewable energy is environmentally friendly, and I hope that such initiatives will spread.

    I think this is good because it is good for environment. However, I'm worried about whether there will be enough electricity with solar power.

Open AI, Abandoned Conversion to a For-Profit Company

   I saw a news that Open AI has decided against converting to a for-profit company. Open AI was founded in 2015 as a non-profit organization, operating Chat GPT.  AI development requires a huge amount of money and in 2019 they established a for-profit subsidiary. In December 2024, Open AI announced that it would remove the for-profit company from NPO. However,  Elon Musk was opposed to the idea, saying it neglected safety and public interest.  From this, I would like to know the clear reasons for abandoning commercialization. Gasoline Prices Down, but will Go Up Next Week?

 Regular gasoline prices were 171.2 yen, down 1 yen from the previous week. This is the eight consecutive week of price declines. However, prices expected to rise next week due to tensions in the Middle East.   According to the Petroleum Information Center, the reason for the drop in gasoline prices is government subsidies to keep gasoline prices down starting in May. The Israeli attack on Iran caused international crude oil futures prices to rise by more than 10% at one point. The Petroleum Information Center states, "While government subsidies have reached the ceiling of 10 yen, retail gasoline prices are also expected to rise next week as wholesale prices to gas stations are expected to rise".  From this,  as I walked by the gas station, I felt recently that the price had finally gotten cheaper, but I knew it would be financially difficult if it would go up again. Growing Rice without Water

 This time I read an article about growing rice without water. This method is more efficient than the previous one and allows production on a large scale with fewer people. Furthermore, this method has reduced their working hours. With the number of famers expected to decrease on the future, this may be good solution.  Furthermore, in the past, there have been methods of producing rice by directly sowing seeds in dry rice paddies, but the problem was unstable growth due to lack of nutrients. The key to this was a liquid fertilizer using beer yeast. By using this, they absorb more nutrients and grow more actively. Although the yield was lower than in the watered fields, there was no problem with the quality. This led me to believe that the spread of this method would bring us closer to solving the problem of the decreasing number of farmers.
